The Institute is a nonprofit organization emerged first as Icelandic Modern Media Initiative informal group of experts and activists for digital rights. The idea of the group is the strategic positioning of Iceland as a country providing “refuge” for freedom of expression and the media along the lines of “tax haven”. The initiative was adopted by the Icelandic Parliament and is implemented as a legislative program of 13 draft laws on granting hosting of information that is threatened during  investigative journalism, protection of journalists and others.
IMMI is involved in the major international project Digital Rights Watch (DiRiWa) for mapping and assessing the state of digital rights in countries around the world.
IMMI is a partner in the project “Enhancing E-democracy in Bulgaria Learning from Iceland” of BAPCI, where is represented by Mr. Smari McCarthy, member of УС, a popular lecturer on the questions of the information society, co-founder of the Pirate party in Iceland.

Created by an act of the Grand National Assembly on 09.18.1991 . Has 4 faculties of training in bachelor and master degrees. The university currently trains over 3,000 students. Has its own modern technical base, built in the late 90s. BAPCI is a partner with the Center for Informatics and Computer Science, represented by Dr. Penka Georgieva for the purposes of expert studies on the project for e-democracy of BAPCI.

Zentrum für Demokratie Aarau (ZDA) is a joint institution of higher education at the University of Zurich and the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland. As an academic research center it deals with interdisciplinary basic research and current scientific issues related to democracy everywhere.
Zentrum für Demokratie Aarau (ZDA)was founded in January 2009 in Aarau and aims to be dedicated in political science, law and political education at the highest level. ZDA is a set of qualified researchers, interested parties and curious citizens from all corners of the world where democracy and development of the heart meet.
